Data Collection and Usage on the Website (Non-Purchase Activity)

🎨 Google Analytics & Cloudflare Workers

I use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with my website (e.g., which pages are popular, how long people stay). This tracking code is hosted and proxied through Cloudflare Workers.

  • This process is intended to anonymise and reduce the amount of personal data sent directly to Google.
  • The data collected includes general information about your session (time of visit, pages viewed, referring site) but is processed with a focus on privacy.

💬 Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, I collect the data shown in the comments form, the visitor’s IP address, and the browser user agent string to help detect spam.

  • Gravatar: An anonymised string created from your email address (called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you are using it. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

📸 Media

If you upload images to the website (such as in comments or forum activity), you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

🍪 Cookies

  • Commenting Cookies: If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to fill in your details again. These cookies will last for one year.
  • Account/Login Cookies: If you visit my login page, a temporary cookie is set to check if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser. When you log in, cookies are set up to save your login and screen display choices (login cookies last two days, screen options last a year). If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. If you log out, the login cookies are removed.
  • Editing Cookies: If you edit or publish an article (if applicable to your user role), an additional cookie is saved that expires after 1 day.

🌐 Embedded Content

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if you visited the other website directly. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, especially if you have an account and are logged in to that external website.

  • Original Artwork Viewed: I use this to, for example, show you pieces you’ve recently viewed.
  • Location, IP Address, and Browser Type: I use this for purposes like estimating taxes and shipping.
  • Shopping Cart Contents: I use cookies to keep track of the contents of your cart while you browse the site.

When you purchase from me, I ask you to provide information including:

  • Name
  • Billing address
  • Shipping address
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Credit card/payment details (handled by the payment processor)
  • Optional account information (like username and password)

How I Use This Information:

I use this information for purposes such as:

If you create an account, I store your name, address, email, and phone number, which will be used to automatically populate the checkout form for future orders.

Data Retention:

I generally store information about you for as long as I need it for the purposes for which I collect and use it, and I am not legally required to continue to keep it.

  • For example, I store order information (including your name, email, and billing/shipping addresses) for two years for tax and accounting purposes.
  • I will also store comments or reviews if you choose to leave them.
  • If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so I can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically.

Data Sharing and Access

Who on My Team Has Access

As the sole proprietor, I (Steven Ellis) have access to the information you provide me. For example, I can access:

  • Order information like what was purchased, when it was purchased, and where it should be sent.
  • Customer information like your name, email address, and billing and shipping information.

I access this information to help fulfil orders, process refunds, and support you.

Who I Share Your Data With (Third Parties)

I share information only with third parties who help me provide my orders and store services to you:

  • Payments (PayPal): I accept payments through PayPal. When processing payments, some of your data will be passed to PayPal, including information required to process or support the payment, such as the purchase total and billing information. Please see the PayPal Privacy Policy for more details.
  • Spam Detection: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
  • Data Sharing Limitation: I do not share any of your personal data with unrelated third-party businesses. If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can:

  • Request a copy: Request to receive an exported file of the personal data I hold about you, including any data you have provided to me.
  • Request erasure: You can also request that I erase any personal data I hold about you. This does not include any data I am obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

For users that register on the website (if any): I also store the personal information you provide in your user profile. You can see, edit, or delete your personal information at any time (except you cannot change your username). I can also see and edit that information.
